Well tomorrow's the day! My shop, Colorado Drum, is hosting the kick-off clinic for the second leg of the 2005 Gadd clinic tour. I'm totally excited and also a bit nervous as I want it to all go smoothly and successfully. We'll have a nice crowd of around 500 which is pretty respectful for little old Fort Collins. Since we were the first stop, all Steve's gear got shipped to the store. It's his actual touring kit from Yamaha, complete with little black stick marks on the heads. The snare is serial # 00001. We also got his personal cymbals, there's a funky 15" A Custom crash with rivets thats all cracked.
I'll try to sleep tonight, probably need a Valium or something tho! If you can hit any of the clinics along the tour I 'm sure you'll be rewarded with drum goodness. The Zildjian Prototype cymbals that are part of the clinic tour are way cool too!

Best of luck to you. I hope that everything goes smooth. I know you're on the organizational side of things, but don't forget to enjoy yourself. Without a doubt, this is going to be an amazing clinic. Report back with a review man!

Yes, today's the day! The good Dr. Gadd and I just had a nice morning run and we're looking forward to kicking off the tour at Colorado Drum (a great bunch of guys) here in beautiful Ft. Collins, CO.

In addition to this forum, be sure to check www.zildjian.com for the daily tour diary. And for anyone living in the greater Los Angeles area, check out KLOS' Mark & Brian show this Fri. Oct. 7th at 9:00 a.m. for a live on-air interview with Steve.

I hope to see you on the road (Randy, see you in Phoenix).

All the best,
John

Hey Drummin1!!

Hope all goes well with your clinic. Ya know we'd all love to hear some stories as to what went on.

John!!
We'll see you at West L.A. Music for the clinic. Will be in tow with Freddy Gruber most likely and the rest of the HOD gang.

Wow! What a day! The Zildjian Gadd Tour bus rolled in around noon today. It alone is worth seeing! We're talkin' Mac Daddy all the way. Our first part of the day was the Zildjian Prototype cymbal sale. Now I figured guys would be interested and that we'd probably sell a few, but man-o-man, they went nuts! Within the first 15 minutes we'd sold 10 or so, and ended up selling almost half of what we brought. The rest will be available at the shop, and I feel certain we'll move them as well.
Next was the autograph session w/ Steve. What a super nice guy he is. Completely down to Earth and very warm and friendly. I'd say there were 300 or so in line, and he graciously meet them all with a smile.
Then the clinic...I can sum it up in one word...GROOVE! Everything Steve plays from simple to complex grooves like a mother! He just lays it down like no other. He did it all, Mozambique(he played it really fast at one point and was smokin'), Late in The Evening, 50 Ways, the rudimental solo from the Buddy Rich Mem. concert, odd meters ( a cool 7/4 groove), and answered lots of questions. I f you can go see him, GO! Everyone was smiling at the end, and the room was full of positive vibes. My 5yr old boy helped me with introductions which was a kick. Sometimes I really love my job! Zildjian really went above and beyond on this one, I'll be in a daze for a few days yet.
Now I need some sleep.

I'm going to the clinic on wed. on a side note, the prototype cymbals are indeed very amazing, I have a few in A and K and they don't leave my studio.
I highly recommend them to all.

That sounds fantastic Drummin1. I can really imagine how this was a great experience for everyone involved. The drumming community really needs people like Steve Gadd to keep people going and inspired, to try new things and hopfully push things to a new level some day themselves. What an influential drummer!
